      What's this wire for?

I was installing my new JVC car stereo into my car the other day, and noticed an unused wire connection on the harness end. It is a white wire with a red stripe. Nothing on my harness adapter runs to this. I have never had a factory stereo, and I am unable to find any wiring diagrams or information on this wire. (I have been looking for an hour)

What is this wire used for? It is not touched by the after market radio.

      I'm in a 2008 aveo5 SV

I will think of a better signature later.

and the wire your looking at is white with a brown strip and its your radio luminosity... chances are your headunit doesnt have that option..

Again I have never had a stock radio.

As for not worrying about it, i'm curious. If it's to something interesting or useful in some abstract way, I will make use of it in that way.

For example if it's a rear glass antenna, I will do some work to adapt it and replace the ugly thing on my roof.

      Illumination works perfectly.

      I'm not color blind.

White with red stripe on bottom of the clip. Please do not make me pull my radio to take a pic.

I have no idea, but maybe it has something to do with onstar or bluetooth

Not an option in the SV but that could be, or even anti theft. A lot of companies just produce one universal harness for their vehicles leaving a lot of unused wires in the the vehicle. I have seen an entire Anti-Lock Brakes Harness laying around in a car that only had the feature on the top american version of the car.

odds are if the diagrams say brown, its brown. wiring colors arent to code like paint on the outside. the stripe machine might have just been running out of a dye, like yellow, or the guy in korea was color blind when he mixed it.

besides if a/m head units are like they have always been, only to top 2% (most expensive) use the illumination line.. its just the dimmer signal on the oem radio.
