with just a thicker gasket, it doesn't. but a head spacer would let you drop it almost any number. I personally would shoot for 8.5:1 and lots of boost.. but your right, the transmission would not handle it.

the brakes stop the car based on weight / speed as much as hp.. the reason most people upgrade their brakes so fast is more power typically means more speed. You could so simple fluid change to abetter fluid and add brake performance (not stopping distance but longevity before fade).

The 1.5 could handle a turbo about as well as any other na stock engine. You just need to design the turbo kit you put on to what you have.. your not going to want a huge turbo and big piping, while it would work it would lag until you have 4-5000 rpm.. a smaller turbo and 2" or 2.5" piping would be plenty. To find a decent size turbo if you havent looked before, there are calculations etc, but start with researching oem to get a starting point to figure out all your other numbers.. for isntance, a 1.6l turbo diesel vw turbo would be a good size turbo most likely for your car..

I see that it's been a while since this thread was active, but here in Norway we just have the 1.2 and 1.4 litres in our 03-08 models of the Kalos.

I have the 1.2, 72ps, and just for fun I mounted a KKK turbo from a Vento 1,9td

So everything is possible, especially when we Norwegean idiots convert our 1.2s

Custom manifold, no electrical changes, just a HKS intake kit with two injectors before the intake...

I think it's the other way around... Many Americans and Canadians that come here to find their "roots" and they end up stealing our female, Norwegean treasures ;(

Anyhow... I think I still have some pictures from the build, if anyone's interessted?
