after long trip throwing P0300 running terrible

OK so after a long trip 1200 miles car is running terrible throwing P0300 random misfire. Some say crank sensor, some say coil. Which is it. and if its a crank sensor how do I re-learn it? TIA

It might just be your plugs. I'd start with the easiest thing first. Pop them out and give em a good look over.

I agree with daox, start easy.

Check the plugs, then put it back together and mist the wires and coil with water while it is running, do you see sparks? then replace what sparks (could just be wires). If the coil sparks i would replace it AND the wire though.

odds are if the crank position sensor was bad, you would get more than just the p0300 codes. But it can happen.

If you do happen to need ignition parts (coil, wires, or even a crankshaft position sensor), PM me. I have some off of my old engine and I'd love to get rid of them.

replaced plugs after work. Not the plugs. started and it went to 2000RPM (pretty smoothly actually) then began to miss. I also heard what sounded tike a buzzing coming from around the #1 plug. Car drove very much the same. BTW the car has 70K on it 5sp and this was its first plug change. I will check with a mister for arcing wires. This is my wifes daily driver so I need this figured out ASAP!

Never done a belt on one of these before. I am predominantly a VW owner and have lots of mechanical experience on those vehicles, but this is my first one of these. BTW what are the plugs supposed to be torqued to?

Changed plugs and wires, cleaned TB, and I still have a hesitation but it runs better. Erased the codes and drove home got home. idled a bit rough and CEL came on. not a flashing CEL like before. Anyway the 3 things that were flashing on the scanner when it was a P0300 were CAT, EVS, O2S. What is EVS? Like I said, running better just not right yet
