New owner: 2009 Aveo5 LS. Any maintenance suggestions?

I just picked up a 2009 Aveo5 LS hatchback. Lowest level of amenities (manual mirrors, doors, windows, etc). It's a GM Certified Pre-Owned vehicle with 39000 miles on it. What should I be looking at for maintenance to keep this running in the best condition?

As far as I understand from lurking around here, the 2009s are good 'til 100k miles with a GM warranty as far as the timing belt issues are concerned, so I guess I don't need to replace that before 60k. Is there anything else I should be looking at replacing soon, or should I just follow the manual's suggested maintenance schedule?

Also, are there any "obvious" upgrades I should look at to increase performance/MPG? I basically intend to keep this vehicle around 3-4 years, and I typically put 10-12k miles on a car per year, so I don't think I'll be hitting 100k before the 4/48k warranty is up (factory certified warranty gives me 3/36k, dealership extended that to 4/48k).

I'm just trying to be proactive and make the next few years as enjoyable and painless as possible as far as maintenance goes.

Is it an automatic? If so I'd recommend dropping the pan or at least changing the fluid. The fluid on my 2009 was brown after only 10K miles. Brown fluid is a sign that the transmission fluid is breaking down, and that's inviting trouble for an A/T. This you can do yourself. In doing a drain and refill you will only remove about 1/3 of the total fluid - but after doing it several times at six month intervals, the overall condition of the fluid will improve. Considering that a tranny rebuild is one of the most expensive repairs for a vehicle, I think of changing the fluid as cheap insurance.

The timing belt is not an issue, all interference engines do the same if they use belts. I have yet to see a 09+ belt break though.

But you should be set, I would not worry about anything.

      Welcome to the forum btw!

Doesn't the 2009 Have the Ecotec motor? If so, He'll never have to put a timing belt in it. Welcome to the forum!

The intervals are 100k miles on the 09+, it has to be changed. just not as often as the 04-08s'

I stand corrected Hunterooo. I was thinking of the other Ecotecs, not found in our car. I was a little off yesterday
