      tranny wont go in

08 4 door with automatic. No matter what I do, flywheel binds, wont turn. Seems to be pressed into block. Had it in three times, first two I seated the converter to the tranny, then installed together. When bolted to the engine, flywheel wouldn't turn. Buddy helped me, we put converter on flywheel first, Keep spinning flywheel while installing tranny to seat the converter. No matter, tranny would never sit flush. Last time was by starter, when finally bolted down, flywheel jammed again.
This is my first FWD tranny replacement......what am I missing or doing wrong?
Thanks again for any help or suggestions.

What happened that you have the two apart? Are you using an actual manual trans flywheel, or the auto trans flexplate? The flex plate is much thinner.

Thanks for the reply. Let me clarify. Its an automatic, which I FRIED. I got a replacement Automatic from a junkyard with warrantee and 53,000 miles. I said flywheel, but was incorrect, It was/is a flexplate. No matter how I tried to put it together, it seems to push the flexplate into the block......what am I missing? Is there a trick to fully engage the convertor? I'm guessing it isnt fully engaging. Thanks again....Lenny

I am not an transmission expert. But in my experience, you are not supposed to allow the converter to separate from the trans, if you do, you will create an air pocket that will "compress" and then push back like a shock. I cannot say this is what you are experiencing. But it sounds like potentially the issue.

As the converter has separated from the trans, and the trans is used, I would replace the pump seal as a precaution against leaks.
