      Chevy Sonic Engine. . . . .

Ok so im sure im jumping the gun quite a bit but im sure im not the first person to think of this. The sonic 1.4 turbo: 138 hp and 148 lbs of torque. Swap into an older model aveo?Correct me if im wrong but it shouldnt be too hard. I dont know about the rest of you but i have put to much work into mine ('11 aveo5, 17000 miles) to just trade over for the same car basically but with a different engine. Any ideas/opinions?

About $2000-3000 in parts. More if you want the 6 speed. And you should be rolling.

I think i am going that route in another 20k miles.

I won't be too hard, it'll just cost a lot.

there was an 1.4t engine, with auto tranny, and pretty much everything engine wise (harness, ecu etc) but not for the tranny, was listed on ebay for $2000. I almost bought it, but i was hoping they would separate the engine and tranny, and they would not.
But that installed then using the trifecta chip would net 156 whp.

Even just the 1.8 would end up with 140 hp at the crank, and still be able to pick up an estimated 10+ hp with a trifecta tune.

Would this be possible on the earlier model aveos too? and would suspension need to be changed? What has me concerned is availability of aftermarket for the engine

being the cruze and sonic are being marketed more "sport compact" than subatomic economy class. I imagine the aftermarket will grow.

Think of what is out there for cavaliers and cobalts.

What do you mean there's no turbo?

I think the only issues you'd have are wiring issues...I feel (haven't researched it yet) that you'd need the sonic motor, motor harness and ECM...and then frankenstein any wiring that runs to the ECM that's not engine related...also the sonic is on the Global A platform, which means GDS2 is needed to read what's going on in there...I'm currently looking into it as well but haven't gotten too involved in it yet

thats about what i have been saying too, from my research if the american built car kept the korean specced harness, it should go in with limited work (at least for the 09+). I have not seen a diagram or anything for the american built versions though. They could have changed everything for all i know.

I haven't seen anything that makes the need for the GDS2 in the swap. You should not need to turn on components or anything. The only thing I can imagine you would need would be immo problems, and the cluster if there are any issues there. However I cannot find information on how those work between the two cars either.

The Aveo is a completely different car. They supposedly do not share a single part , so there could be issues running into the wiring or the engine mounts. If I was going for a 50 HP gain, I would just readily install a C20XE from an older Opel/Vauxhall Astra. (The Mk1 - Mk3 Astra having the same platform as the Aveo.)
