Chevy Sonic sticker price officially comes in at $14,495

Interesting to see it this high, I was hoping to see it lower... I wonder how much assembling it here in the US is affecting prices. Only an extra $700 for 6spd and 1.4L turbo sounds quite acceptable though.

General Motors has officially announced pricing for the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic. The subcompact sedan will start at $14,495 (including destination charges) while the five-door model will command a slightly steeper $15,395 MSRP.

Those figures net buyers a 1.8-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine with 138 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque, a five-speed manual transmission, 10 air bags, remote keyless entry and power door locks. Buyers with a little more coin to spend can opt for a six-speed automatic transmission for $1,070. The more powerful and fuel-efficient turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual transmission will set you back another $700, though that combination is only available on pricier LT and LTZ trims.

The prices put the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic Sedan on the high side of the subcompact segment. The Ford Fiesta S Sedan hits the market at $13,995 with destination while the Honda Fit hatchback lands closer to $15,870 and the Toyota Yaris carries a sticker of $13,915. The sales leader in the segment, the Nissan Versa, meanwhile, can be had for as little as $10,750 in sedan guise.

Intereting fact I learned just this morning: You can already buy an ECM tune for the 1.4T which gives it 180 hp/230 lb/ft (at 3500 RPM).

Oh, we definitely knew it was going to be more expensive. You're really getting quite a bit more with the Sonic. More power, better mileage, bigger car, higher quality, more standard features...

Most power in it's class, people love power.

I want to see the 1/4 mile and 0-60 for the turbo model.

You do know that you'll be nowhere close to $15,200 for a five door 6sp turbo right? Your post makes it seem like this, but if you actually read the article, you'll see that the $700 option is only available on the pricier model trims. So i'm guessing closer and closer to 20k before you know it. I don't want to spend anywhere near $20k on this new car. This should cost 15 tops.

You don't hear much complaining from people when they see a $18,500 price tag on the Fiesta, but for that kind of money I would be looking at a VW Golf.

thats because they didnt replace a $13k fiesta with the $18.5 one.

the biggest problem i have with car companies is they keep moving the price point up, for someone who buys a car every ten years (not me) but is brand loyal, would have spent less 20 years ago on a cadillac, than a well optioned aveo today. not that inflation isn't considered, but with the whole push to be american built the price increase just makes me think its all gong to union wages.. which was a problem for gm in the first place.

But yes $18500, will buy you a much better car than a fiesta, an aveo, or even a cruze. And 18.5 isnt fully equipped, by the time you get to that price range, you can get a fully loaded GTI, subaru, etc.
