Can upshift 1st-5th in my Escort but not good enough to do it downshifting just yet. And yeah...I did learn floating gears in a truck all day long. Maybe I can master it in my clunker (rusty but reliable!) before I get an Aveo.

Wow, way to necro a thread from 09! I used to use a clutchless upshift when I would do track days on my Ducati but it made sense there. You just put upward pressure on the shift lever and back off the throttle a touch. It shifted then give it the beans again. It saved tons of time when tenth of a second counted. Down shifts are another story, never clutchless but the slipper clutch meant you just grab the clutch lever, bang the shift lever down to where you need it and dump the clutch. The slipper matched the revs with no wheel hop at all. It was not uncommon to go from 5th to 2nd for a hairpin at the end of a straight. The Duc would go faster in 3rd than the Aveo could top out at so I don't drive it that hard.
