      clutchless shifting

ever since my friend got back from vacation, he was talking about how kool it would be to learn to clutchless shift his car, and how a truck driver was telling him how he shifts his rig with out the clutch all day long.

so me being a dumb ass that i am, i desided to prove to him that i'm away better driver then he is, so i took my aveo out on to a big parking lot, and started practicing.

i can now shift all 5 gears without the clutch, its smooth as butter, and nothing grinds, but i can only do it at low rpm's for now.

who else is doing this in there aveo? or ever done in any other vehicle?

Ive done it redlining every gear, you just gotta wait for the rev to come down to the right spot.

Upshifting that way is ez, try downshifting from 5th to 1st without the clutch tho, thats a different story.

Please do not attempt this unless you know what you are doing or still have your warranty.

they wont replace that under warranty... clutch is not covered.. it would probably shatter before the tranny.

i still wish i have the factory "upgrade" clutch...

      Re: clutchless shifting

why are you guys talking about the clutch, clutchless shifting does not involve the clutch, and if you do it right, and transmission acts like the clutch is pressed

      Re: clutchless shifting

the clutch is still what carries the power through to the trans.. if you jamb it between gears (misshift) or dont rev match rpms properly. in this car the clutch is the weakest link. and can and will still glaze or shatter from the power grab of the transmission

all you are doing is "floating" the gears instead of "floating" the pressure plate... the clutch is still holding the power, it is not bypassed. you are just eliminating a step in shifting for "speed"

      Re: clutchless shifting

I wouldn't want to try that because I know that it would take lots of nasty grinding before I'd get the hang of it. Interesting idea though!

      Re: clutchless shifting

It isnt really hard at all, ive done it many many times without problems, like its been said u just gotta know what your doing, my brother has a Mazdaspeed 3 and he shifts it without the cluth 90% of the time because he has a bad knee and has some trouble pushing the clutch, its not hard.

      Re: clutchless shifting

I tried out the clutchless shifting today. I got it on my first try, but had a bit of grinding on my second clutchless shift. I somewhat knew how to do it based on what I had been told, but had never seen it done before.

Oh well. It is neat, but I probably won't be using it much.
