      Re: clutchless shifting

I almost always use a basic form of clutchless shifting....

Always when slowing down to stop at a stop light, I wait to feel the point where the shifter will just slide out of gear.

Its one less clutch press which can help, in heavy traffic.

I tried some full clutchless shifting today....you have to be really confident and exact to get it right. I got some grinding, and probably wont be doing it much.

I dont think Its not any worse on the clutch than regular shifting if done right. (normal speeds, no grinding or clunking or lugging)

      Its not powershifting.

      Re: clutchless shifting

I used to clutchless upshift and downshift all day long. Probably done over 20k miles city without the clutch which includes downshifting. I just did it for the fun of it and the fact I had a 6 puck clutch w/ 1200lbs pp so it was much easier.

It's a good trick to know when you're trying to do things with your hands and need your legs for the steering. lol

i can now shift all 5 gears without the clutch, its smooth as butter, and nothing grinds, but i can only do it at low rpm's for now.

who else is doing this in there aveo? or ever done in any other vehicle?

I would not recomend doing this to anyone, you can shift w/out a clutch, but you will wear it out that much quicker. I drive big rigs all the time at work and they are a big difference. Big rigs have whats called a clutch-brake, which is a gear that spins constantly and you can feel when you shift gears like a finger running on the gear slowing it down for your speed selection. Not to mention they have air lol. By the time you get good at shifting without a clutch in your aveo you will already have screwed up enough times that the damage is done.

Clutchless shifting will do no harm to the clutch. If it's slipping enough to become glazed, due to abrupt application of power, there's a wear issue here. The biggest reason NOT to do this is the fact you're placing incredible stress on the transmission syncronizers. They were not designed to bring gears up or down to matching speed under load.

You can not commit crimes in a Aveo. Its just not fast enough.

That's why you need to step up your game, stay with the manual, and get a kenwood headunit w/ bluetooth. It works fantastic.
