      Unhappy Removing the Oil Pan

At least, I'd like to do it without too much swearing.

I have had issues with my oil light (like it goes on even when there's a ton of oil in the crankcase and the engine is noisy, as if it had no oil)

I figure it's probably the OPSU, which would make sense after 6 years of ownership.

But I want to take off the oil pan and clean it, and check the pickup screen. I haven't done this kind of job before, but I have done a lot of research and looked at the technical manuals at the library.

It says there are 13 bolts on the drain pan. I have removed ten. I can't find any more.

I removed 3 bolts that held the engine to the transmission.

I can't find anything else, but the oil pan definitely isn't moving at all. The only other time I tried to remove something that didn't move at all, I hadn't actually removed all bolts.

Any advice? I am just getting used to the idea of being under the car, but learn fast and am discovering that I'm way more handy than I ever thought I was!

Do you have the replacement gasket for the oil pan? Just line it up to see what you're missing.

Thanks, TurboElk...but it's a liquid gasket. I about drove myself crazy looking for it online, only to discover that the dealership sells black goop to make one. I got my black goop at the auto parts store instead, lol.

Even with all the bolts removed, you might have to give it a few whacks with a mallet to free it from the engine block. OP, I also replied to your PM about the OPSU.

Check out this link for a replacement oil pan, http://www.amazon.com/Diften-311-A01.../dp/B00ONGZ6L0

It looks like there are a few bolts that connect to the transmission bell housing

EDIT: and here is a write up I just found http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/Bl...eo_oil_pan.pdf

The amazon pan looks like there is more than 13 bolts holding it on to the engine block.
I would make sure that all bolts are out, use a mirror to see hard to see areas, then get a VERY THIN scraper (maybe a razor scraper and try to wedge it between the block and pan working your way around while smacking it with a rubber mallet a little bit.

Don't forget the 2 bolts under the rubber plugs in the back of the pan. You will need an extension to get them.

Once all bolts are out, just use a punch or flat screwdriver to give it a few taps from above, and it should pop free.
