2007 Aveo EVAP P0496 HELP!

I have an inspection scheduled for next week and wouldnt you know it, i got a check engine light yesterday for code P0496 - EVAP flow during a non-purge condition.

I have been smelling gas occasionally, but not constantly, the past few weeks.

I checked the canister vent solenoid by putting power to it and it seems to open and close just fine.

I also checked the voltage on the connector going to the solenoid, and I got no voltage either with the key on or the car started. I'm not sure of when there should be power applied to the solenoid, but I would imagine it is almost always powered to keep the solenoid closed.

Anything else easy for me to check? Is there a seperate purge solenoid, or is that the same as the canister vent solenoid?

I want to test the fuel tank pressure sensor, but I think it would require dropping the fuel tank, which I can do if I need to.

I not sure but did you check the gas cap to make sure it tight, or is sealing right.
Would like two here your out come.

I did check the gas cap, it clicked when i tried to tighten it up. So it was on tight, the seal seemed clean, as well as the lip on the filler.
I did get gas a day or 2 before the light came on.

I still need to clear the code and see if it reoccurs.
