      2007 Chevy Aveo 5 Hatchback

Hi there! So I just bought a (used) 2007 Chevy Aveo 5 Hatchback with approx. 50,000k miles on it.

I'm having a problem with a real bad grinding noise...
When I make a (sharp) Right turn, you can hear a deep metal on metal grinding sound coming from the passenger side of the car. When I make a (sharp) Left turn you can hear the same metal on metal grinding to a lesser extend. You can feel the grinding in the steering wheel, but as of now it is not affecting the steering. I've been told a bunch of different 'ideas' as to what this grinding could be (i.e. a bearing being out, the steering knuckle needing to be replaced, etc..) I was hoping that somehow, someone over the internet could point me in a closer direction to the source of my problem so I don't have to spend a bunch of money fixing what's NOT broken on my car.

NOTE: I first thought the noise was coming from the BACK passenger tire, but now I'm PRETTY SURE (not positive) that it's coming from the FRONT passenger tire.

      Any help/ideas are welcome....

      Thanks.

bearing, there are a lot of threads/post on here about it, maybe the biggest issue with the aveo besides timing belts (do you know if it was changed yet?)

jack up each corner and try wobbling the wheel, if there is any play, take off the tire and try again. if there is a wobble, even a little, the bearing is shot.

if non of the wheels wobble, check the cv joints, those are the only other thing (sort of) where the noise gets better or worse with turning.

oh, and if you feel it in the steering wheel, like actually feel it in the steering wheel not just adjust to movement, then it is 99% likely to be in the front suspension.

      as for a cv joint

clicking is when the housing enlarges with wear, and the bearing balls have room to move/slip.

grinding would be a broken ball, and its pieces go in between the two halves of the joint and then get pinched in a turn.

i had a clicking noise every time i would drive from a stop or when i would shift. turned out to be the trans casing cracking where the mount bolts up. lost the trans and am now fighting the POS to get a new(used) trans back in.

Everything is custom because we cant afford to do it right.
