Best way to remove manual Shifter, and E-brake boot?

IF you still have the car,or would answer the question anyway to help,...how do I get the EBrake boot off? Mine is still just dissolving away, I never use it, but its still just rotting away, making the inside look like crap!
I see the big plastic rectangle around the base of it, it pops out! Right? BUT how do you get it off the brake handle?? I dont get it. I dont feel or see any clip/screw to remove, to get it off the handle itself. Can you fill me in on how to remove it? Thanks.
