Re: Need Opinions on Virus Protection

Being a professional tech support and administrative monkey... symantec is probably the worst product on the market. Not because it doesn't protect, but because it goes ****ing overboard.

You know how vista asks you to "continue" before doing ****ing anything? Norton 360 has there own little continue button too! It pops up for ****ing ANYTHING. It slows the computer down like nothing else, either. What's the point in having a virus free computer if you can't ****ing use it anyways.

We use CA e-trust (over 650 workstations, and 50 servers) at work right now. It's OK, but their response time to new viruses and support is terrible. We'll likely be switching to Trend Micro in the year (money permitting).

      Top Picks:

      Trend Micro
      AVG
      Kaspersky
      Clamwin AV (FREE!!!!! <---!!!!!)

Re: Need Opinions on Virus Protection

I haven't read the entire thread but here's my opinion...

I don't use virus protection, never have, never will....

The most important thing you can do is stop using internet exploder and use firefox. I use V.2 not 3.
Learn to use the the content tab under tools--->options--->content--->exceptions. this will save you!

on my desktop I still use WINDOWS 98se, BEST OS EVER!!! there I have firefox too. I go everywhere and do everything just like XP or Vista(vista is GARBAGE) DO NOT download SP3 for XP, it will turn it into Vista!

but, on my desktop I have java and scripts set as "prompts" that way, depending on what sites you're visiting, you can accept or decline the use of either. There by keeping malware, adaware...etc out of your computer. Also, if you run your XP with restore off, before you visit the "questionable" websites, turn it on, just in case you're not using a "condom"...

For reference, before I turn my comp off, this is what I run... religiously...

      1. Ccleaner http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000-2 ... ?tag=mncol

      2. Lavasoft- Adaware http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2008/3 ... ?tag=mncol

      3. Spybot- Search and Destroy http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-a ... ?tag=mncol

The above apps are all free!

      For the list:

      Super AntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com/

Sounds like a fake product, but it gets rid of nearly anything Spybot and the others can't. This is my last resort at work before a format. Free for personal use.
