      4G63T

Well I spent the good portion of my afternoon working on my 4G63T and felt like sharing for no particular reason. Todays goal was to remove and clean the lash adjusters to get rid of the annoying valve tick. I made good progress but ran out of daylight with only 3 rocker arms left to install. Tomorrow I will be finishing it up and also installing my Aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure regulator so that OEM FPR wont be so overrun by the Walbro 255 and the 550cc injectors. Suprisingly, the only bad thing to happen through all this was a damn sore finger that got smashed by a rocker arm. Note to anyone working on the valve head, be wary that the valve springs are under extreme tension. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

And this is why I need to install the AFPR, shes running a little rich :

Technically the 4G63T was the racing engine. The 4G63 is what is in your car. Nice work though

I thought the 4G63T was the turbo version of the 2.0??? You could be right tho, its a pretty fun project.

I still need to buy a new J pipe for going of the turbo as you can in the background of the pic with the ratchet on the cam gear... There are things I find on this car that make me go why did they do this when they could have just done this? Oh well, still fun.

Also considering painting the valve cover black while I got it off as the bright red matches nothing on the car.

The 4G63 covers turbo and non turbo version. The T was for the racing engines.

Make sure you inspect the valve cover before you put it back on. They are prone to cracking. I would also do a new timing belt while you are going the top end. Nothing worse than a timing belt letting go on an interference motor.

The timing belt is already new along with the water pump. No worries there. Thanks for the tip on the valve cover, I got to clean it up pretty then I will check it out. These DSMs are fun, but fairly laborious.

Oh how fast you will learn. And every DSM owner will at some point will end up buying another. A local guy has 6 of them.

      Re: 4G63T

Im glad I invested in a Haynes manual and am very thankful for VFAQ.com otherwised id be freakin lost. They are fairly easy to work on, but im not a mechanic which makes things about 100x harder for me. I will get the knowledge over time I think and I know a few people in the area who are willing to help me out if I need it.

Yeh, Im learning pretty fast though.
