      DSM=Diamond Star Motors

      It was a small company that started in Illinois and then I believe it wasbought out by Daimler/Chrysler/Mitsubishi in like 87 or 88???? Not to sure on the specifics.

      I thought the name formed because of the Mitubishi Logo, is a diamond star.

      ie, Its just another name for Mitsubishi motors, which always had the logo.

      Not sure about the Illinois theory.

      Not to doubt you Mike, but I'm not so sure about that. I'm pretty sure DSM has its roots off-shore.

      Founded October 1985, Diamond-Star Motors (commonly abbreviated to DSM) was an automobile-manufacturing joint venture between the Chrysler Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. The name came from the parent companies' respective logos: three diamonds (Mitsubishi) and a pentastar (Chrysler). Diamond-Star Motors was officially renamed Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America, Inc. (MMMA) in 1995, four years after Mitsubishi took sole control of the plant, and since 2002 its official title has been Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) Manufacturing Division.

      Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) Manufacturing Division Headquarters is at 100 N. Mitsubishi Motorway, Normal, Illinois 61761.

      DSM is also know for making some of the most unreliable cars in the northern hemisphere. But if you can keep them running, they are damn fast.

      Re: 4G63T

      I decided that my Aveo wasnt enough to work on alone so I bought a 1983 Mercedes 300D Turbo Diesel, and no after owning it for 3 wks I am friggin disgusted. Every little job I need to do takes 4hrs of research on http://www.benzworld.org forums. So Mike, with that in mind, and knowing that our choice of projects are completely different, I understand now what you mean when you said "fairly laborius".

      Try to find a service manual for your car, you will be glad you did. Post some pics of the 300.

      I'll take some pics tomorrow if the sky clears up and get them posted. I'm definitely going to get a service manual.
