I'd say it'll give the same gain on both engines. His car likely has the same power steering, A/C, alternator and similar water pump if not the same. Those components all suck the same amount of power from an engine no matter if its a 1.4L or 1.6L, so going to a different pulley should increase power to the wheels the same amount on both engines.

      HP

I was just stating that for our cars to get to 140 hp would take considerably less amount of engine modifying. The lightweight pulley it a great buy for 5% more hp to weight.

The curb weight for the 1.4L is oddly more than the 1.6L?
So the hp/weight ratio will be alot better as well.

i believe on garys cars list of mods, it was a 1.6 with high compression pistons and a set of high duration cams by the time it hit 140hp..

the 1.4 and the 1.6 (and 1. are the same engine block.

do you know if you can run a stock belt w/ the smaller pulley if you don't have factory a/c?

i know when i went to an underdrive crank pulley in my yaris, i had to find a new belt that fit properly since it too does not have factory air

I don't have factory A/C, and it really shouldn't matter since there is an idler in place of the A/C compressor. So, I do recommend the belt mentioned, however it may not be absolutely necessary.

Nice! Already got mine in the mail... thanks a bundle! That arrived FAST! I ordered it on a Thursday and got it the next Monday! On my way to get a new belt now... I have tried to borrow an impact wrench from various Auto-shops with no luck, and none of my friends have one to borrow, so I got an appointment Friday at the mechanics' to get it installed! I even contemplated buying the wrench, but since some people couldn't crack that nut even with the impact, I didn't want to be stuck with an impact wrench that wouldn't complete the job, and then have no $$$ to get a mechanic if needed... I'm still SUPER EXCITED about having the part put on! Can't wait to rally some 0-60 times with it!

How likely is it that the timing gear can be accidentally pulled off? What should I look for, in regards to the timing gear coming off (even just slightly), after I take off the crank pulley?

And also, a post on this thread says stepping on the brake will stop the engine from turning over when removing the pulley bolt. Can anyone confirm if this will work for automatics too?

      Thanks.

Daok didn’t mention how you need to remove the crankshaft pulley. Did you use a puller? What puller works? What about torquing the crankshaft bolt on? How do you keep the crankshaft from moving when torquing the bolt down? They sell pulley holders, but this don’t have any holes for it to hold the tool onto it when torquing the bolt.
