      OMG, I am an Idiot!!!

I just happily got my light lit up, only to find out that I put the cover back on with the ribs horizontal! they go vertical!! fuuuuuuuu ck!!!

No one will really notice I guess, but I'll always know its wrong. Dammit. I knew I shouldnt have just guessed.

      Re: City Lights

      And Finally,

Having popped the lens off on my second light, I have a tip I'd like to suggest.

If you dont have a cone bit, and you decide to go with a drill bit be carefull.

I started with a tiny, easy to drill pilot hole. Its the second drill bit. It just pulls right into the plastic instead of drilling it . Which then pops the lens off. I'd use a dremel tool after the pilot hole, or I'd just buy that kone bit as shown in the how-to pics.

I guess its good because I can now mount this lens 90* off , to match the mistake I made on the other side. I like them better with the ribbing vertical, like stock, but I guess having them match looks better than not.

      Re: City Lights

When I popped mine out, I was lucky enough to be able to get it back in place and place some silicone on the edge to keep it there. I thought it would only last a day or 2 but it's been like that for 6 months.

      Re: City Lights

I did a similar thing to mine. I used the middle bulb/socket from the running lights. So, no extra bulb to deal with.

      Re: City Lights

I know this is an old post. But I thought that I would add that what was being done is not a city light. Good attempt at it, but far from it. What those look like are regular parking lights...WAY TO BRIGHT. Plus they are are not supposed to come on with the parking lights on the bumper.

I am trying to find the pics of my Mercedes at night with them on.

This isnt a AVEO but it shows a good PROPER way to add city lights.

      Re: City Lights

drl and city lights are too different things.

and for all of you who push out the amber reflector piece using a drill bit.. i know the size is larger than a typical hose, but for an 1/8 drill bit slide a vacuum hose onto it to be a stopper. if the bit is 4 inches ling and you need to only drill a 1/4 inch deep put a 3 3/4 inches of hose on it to stop the bit from going into the hole. the scale is different going to a bigger hole. but it gives you the idea. this way you dont punch through, and know the lens out.

      Re: City Lights

DRL's are on ALL the time. Plus the tail lights are on with DRL's IIRC. With city lights it is just the small 5W bulbs in the headlights that are on.

The fact is people are calling this "mod" city lights when in fact they are nothing like it. It is just parking lights in the headlight. Nothing special about it. It infact looks really stupid to those how know what REAL city lights look like.
