That light will not deter anyone. Thieves know people install them all the time to save cash!

I would invest in a good alarm if you plan on adding some mods to your ride. But that's just me!

      Re: Fake Alarm LED Install

The color of an LED has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the legitimacy of an alarm. I just installed one and it came with a blue LED. To answer the original question there is a constant 12V under the dash and any metal will serve as ground. I know you said you do not want a full alarm, but as previously stated, they are an easy install, all wires are under the dash and in the drivers kick panel. If you can install a HU/amp/sub, you can definately install an alarm. Also as stated decent alarms can be had for 40 bucks on ebay, scytek is a good brand, search ebay on that. also as stated smash and grab is the most common form of theft, so consider a glass breakage sensor. all this said I would put a fake LED and a sticker on rather than have nothing, thieves also take the path of least resistance.

Ok, finally, thank you for answering my question. Like you mentioned, "the path of least resistance" is absolutely right. Anyone who knows a thing about the kind of research that has been done on this knows that..... Unless some of you are car thieves, then I'm wrong I guess. With that said, I may just look into eBay for an alarm if they are that cheap...

      Re: Fake Alarm LED Install

tad bit late on subject, but anything u put whether it be a led light or an actually alarm system will deter the punk kid or desperate asshole who sees an oppurtunity for a quick score, but an actuall theif will not think twice if they see somethin they want, chances are they are skilled enough to get what they need and be out in no time flat, and if its someone who plans on taking the whole car, then forget it an alarm that can be disable with a few snips or a press of a kill switch isn't going to stop anyone who is ballzy enough to commit Grand Theft Auto... in cali people would steal your car, then leave any personal stuff like your id card, or anything they didnt care to have in ur mailbox as a slap in the face.. so if u live in an area with younger people who are into the tuner scene i would go with a "club" type device to lock the steering wheel, or a system that has the ability to kill the car's cpu upon un-authorized entry, cuz maybe its just that i lived in cali and texas, but in both places people tend to just take the whole car and dump rather than try a smash n grab..

      Re: Fake Alarm LED Install

keep your ID in your wallet, lol...

I've always been partial to the "live wire on the door handle" idea... to bad that's now called "attempted murder"...

The key to a good alarm install is not to have a professional do it... They do every install the same way, and all you have to do is rip down and it will come out...

Do it yourself and hide it as best you can... I have 3 cars with Viper alarms and every one is installed in a different location...
