How To Remove Water Spots On The Hood?

      Hey All,
Can anyone tell me how to remove the water spots left behind by the windshield sprayers? I detailed my car today, I have used and still use a high quality wax,...I use 'Collinite #476S Super Doublecoat Auto Wax', and the finish is in great condition, no fade or wear or peeling. The car looks great and nice and shiny again, but these damn water spots on the hood show and make it look so bad. Does anyone know of a product that I can use to get rid of them, or a homemade concoction that works, and doesnt ruin the clearcoat?

Is there a rubbing compound that is SAFE for clearcoats? I would rather live with the big 'V's' of water spots on the hood, than have big scuff marks from something that rubs off the spots, along with the clearcoat. Anyone have any products that they have used, that works and won't kill the clearcoat?

Hi, if your hood was already waxed then the water spots should be on top of the existing coat of wax. Therefore, any clay bar will remove all the wax and any surface contaminants without damaging your clear-coat. I've used the Meguiar's Smooth Surface clay car kit which comes with a sample bottle of cleaner wax which may help further.
If your hood didn't already have a coat of wax then a clay bar won't remove water spots from the clearcoat of paint. Wolfgang Total Swirl remover and the Meguair's Ultimate compound are good products but unless you know the proper technique it's worth paying a professional to detail your car with a dual action polisher and determining the least aggressive polishing compound to remove the water spots whilst preserving the original finish.
