      Exploding Water Outlet

Hi - We are all aware of the self destruct effect of a bad timing belt - But is the Water Outlet a similar problem?
I was looking at some YouTube vids and came across this one:

GENERAL MOTORS SCREWED ME!!!!!! MANUFACTURING DEFECT WARNING FOR 2005 CHEVY AVEO OWNERS!!!!!!! - YouTube

If you read a few comments down it looks like it happened to other people as well.
I went out last night and picked up the aluminum version.

      Anyone know about this problem?

this problem has been talked about to death on this forum. if you notice the video at 34 seconds, how hard the car is hit in the front end probably moved the radiator putting more stress on the part, as well as the fact he had to drive longer than 3 minutes with smoke billowing out from under the hood before his engine would have seized.

that said, it has been replaced with the aluminum part, like you have done. but the failure of plastic coolant parts is a maintenance issue more than a failure, it should be replaced imho with the timing belt, as a new t-stat should be put in with the new water pump.

Yeah, a little research and some basic maintenance is necessary on any vehicle. I don't care what it is, there will be problems. Especially with the lower end models like the aveo. To me it's part of the joy of owning the car, I know it's going to break so I fix or improve it anyway.

Lol, I ran a car for 30 seconds after hitting a deer, and puncturing the radiator hard. Took me that long to get stopped and off the side of the road, engine was fine just needed a new radiator and fresh coolant.
