      Taking out the front muffler/resonator???

      Hi everyone!

I'd like people's opinions on the removal of the front exhaust muffler/resonator.

It's item #7 in the attached picture. I would only remove the round muffler and replace it with a straight pipe. I would still keep the muffler that is at the back of the car.

I know most people just replace the muffler closest to the back of the car.

Would taking this first muffler/resonator give the exhaust note a different tone?

      Has anyone done this?

I am sure people here have. I am a big on doing science when doing car mods. Just thinking that changing something with improve performance is wishful thinking. Personally on cars, boats, and airplanes I prefer quite. I do love the sound a bad ass jet or plane, however I enjoy them from afar and not in the cockpit.

I found a great thread on reddit that goes into this subject and this is the best quote yet:
DR exhausts and intakes are mother****ing science. You better be sure that you know science better then the guy who made it in the first place, if you want to make your exhaust make more power.

you know I did not address that question. The answer is yes, it will change exhaust sound. The problem with the experiment is that you may not like the change. I believe that is a welded part. So I would consider replacing the muffler first as that might be a bolted part.

Oh I see that it is indeed a welded part!....hmmmm. Think I'll just keep it stock.

rwags, i left that resonator in, but removed the other one, the smaller one. at the time, they were both cut out with a torch so i got to take out separately and look through them in the light, they are both very similar, just different sizes
if you wanted to change the tone i agree with what xintersecty says which is to replace the muffler. if you get a chance in the session to try welding in no resonator, then one resonator try it out, thats what i did so i could hear the difference
