      Like "Food For Thought..."

      Anyone run across this site?

      http://www.freedom-motors.com/

Should we start bugging them for prices and to see if they'd put together a kit to perform an engine swap?

Their numbers seem great, and may result in significant weight savings, but I'm not an automotive engineer or mechanic and so might be missing something big.

those engines are okay if you like burning oil and a lot of gas at the same time :P

Check again, they're not Mazda and they claim to have the oil problem fixed by using a different cooling technology for the rotors. Given that the Mazda engines mostly had that problem(from what I found) after A) they were designed with different rotor and chamber materials with different expansion rates and/or B) someone had overheated them and blown the side seals, I'd certainly be willing to give the engine a try. I run into the minor issues myself of my Aveo5 is my only car, the daily drive, a 30 mile each way commute, and not having much mechanical experience which makes it hard for me to be able to say "Yea, I can budget for that engine replacement and live with waiting for parts". Incidentally, no timing belt on them

still, the mpgs would be worse, and lol apex seals :P

now more technical, you would have to swap the tranny as well, along with countless other pieces, and new mounts would have to be made, with the extra power im not sure if the front axle will be okay, so a lot of work would have to be done

it would be cool to do, if something ever happened to your engine then one could be had for way under $1000 and swapped in a day or less

if you want a swap thats been done, then for about $8000 or so you can have a Cobalt SS swapped in for a 13 second car =D> and its been done so much of the problem solving is taken care of
