The High-Flow cat will actually lower the back-pressure that your engine experiences. If your car is a bit older, its more than likely your original cat is slightly clogged anyway so it is good to replace ever so often. I noticed more HP and response when I removed the cat, so more than likely you will experience the same by replacing it with a higher flowing one.

The muffler adds some back-pressure but is only really there to keep it quiet/change the sound. If you have cat on, to me, it doesn't sound bad without a muffler. I would recommend doing the high flow and finding a performance muffler that you like the tune of. If you still have the stock exhaust - you could just change the cat to the high flow and it would have a better sound.

Just a note - you may trigger your O2 sensor (check engine light) with some non-stock cats. It doesn't hurt anything, its just for emission purposes.

Most oem cats flow very well these days. I dont have the specific numbers for the aveo cat, but most newer cars have the same "honeycomb" design associated with high flow cats.

The best thing you can do is remove the muffler for a higher flow actual performance design, not just a fart can.

matching the intake to the muffler with a cai will also increase the engines ability to breath.

Does anyone know a specific aftermarket muffler that's not a fart can but allows for improved performance with a stock exhaust system??

It can be a weld on

or would it be fine to just replace the muffler with a straight pipe? Sorry if that's dumb- I've done most work to this car myself I just don't know a lot about exhaust.
