      Question Exhaust suggestions

      Hello,

I currently have an almost stock 2004 Aveo, and the exhaust is in pretty bad shape. I'm not looking for high performance parts, but would increasing the exhaust diameter help at all? I believe it's 1.5" stock, so I was thinking of making it 2" from the cat back, and obviously getting a less restrictive muffler.

Would the parts need to be all custom made? How much might it cost? I'm looking to spend around $300 to $400...

      Thanks in advance.

I had a custom cat back done by a local muffler shop. They used a 2.5 inch pipe and whipped up a custom muffler. It cost me $163 and took them a little over an hour to finish. Told them that I wanted it to be discrete so they shaped the end like the stock one looks. I'd show from the cat and back but haven't had the opportunity to try and fit under my car, lol.

Wow that's a surprise! That's cheaper than buying all the stock parts from Rockauto. I'll have to call around and get some quotes.

Did you notice any difference in sound or performance?

Damn, a whole catback exhaust only cost you 163!?? I wish prices were that low around here...

I matched it with a CAI so I'm sure the car gained 1-5 hp's but I couldn't tell if it made any difference in performance. As for the sound, it's considerably quiet compared to all the fart cans you hear on Hondas but louder than stock.

Yeah, I was surprised myself. Though, should it really cost more than that? Bending a pipe and welding it onto a car shouldn't be -too- expensive, right?

Was the muffler/resonator included in that price? or did you remove the resonator?
