cruise control suggestions? (want to keep factory look)

I am starting a new job that i have to drive several hundred miles a week to do. i need cruise control. If I go to the dealership how much will they charge me just to get the parts? I want it to look factory so the funny looking little stick is out. Wells sells the steering wheel mounted switches but I don't know if the connectors are already in the wheel or if I have to run them. Also at $44 I don't think it comes with a wiring harness of any type. I think it is just a replacement part for when the letters wear off. If I can go with a factory look of pods, do I have to airbag unit out, if so how? By the way it is an 07 if that matters much. Also I read that some of you wanted to put new horns in your car to get rid of the gay sound; I'd like to hear some of those experiences.

from most dealerships ALL the parts you need will be less that $200..

from my research you need the switch and clock spring.

Would you acctually get the directions from them also or just parts? Also forgive my ignorance but these new tangled electronic cars screw me up, but, what is the clock spring?

clock spring is the thing that lets wires pass through the steering wheel and keeps the wheel about to turn without binding the wires.

I just talked to my stealership and one of their techs said that I probably wouldn't just be able to install the CC system because the computer is programed with the spacific settings for my options. I also popped off the little knock outs on the side of my steering wheel and all I saw were the screws for the airbag with no way of mounting the pod on the side. Apparently they have 2 different types of steering wheels, one with the pod on the side and one without. His suggestions was to get a wheel from a totalled car with the pod but was still unsure of whether or not they would be able to reprogram at their garage.

no. you can jump the brown and grey wires to the factory switch and have functioning cruise control.

there is not cruise light in the cluster, bulb needs put in from my understanding.
and you can "open" the steering wheel to install the switch. but im not 100% sure but the piece that comes out for the switch to go in is still a separate piece from the rest of the wheel on mine. But you cant jump the wires and install the switch in the steering wheel. BUT installing the clockspring plugs the brown and grey wire into the steering wheel.

Years ago the first mod to my aveo was cruise control. I bought a control from Rostra Precision Controls in Laurenburg NC (way cool it was an NC company and I was living in Raleigh). It looked like this:

The wireless controller clipped on to the steering wheel and it really does look seamless. I have been very happy with it sense. I went back and there are no longer offering that option. Basically it just sent a can bus message to set the speed to the computer.
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....
