      2011 Aveo sedan engine replacement

This is a kids vehicle and she doesn't even drive it so not worth the $1800 engines online. My local junkyard has no Aveos so I'm looking for a direct swap that isn't in the compatibility database.

There are a lot of Cruze and a 2012 Sonic. They are 1.8L. I'm a Honda guy so really unsure here but that's probably all same fit with little higher deck height.

Think it's just $350 to pick an engine so that would be lot better than trying to do the head gasket on this one near 200k just to find more problems.

While you are correct that the 1.8 in the Sonic and Cruze share the same basic block construction and engine components as the 2009-2011 1.6 in Aveos, it is uncertain if it will even bolt-in. I have seen no evidence that any 1.8 will directly bolt-up to the Aveo 5 speed manual or the 4 speed automatic. That's probably the biggest issue. You would probably need to also use the Sonic or Cruze's ECM, and then try to adapt it to all the Aveo's wiring harnesses. Unless someone else has managed to do this, i recommend you save yourself big headaches and don't waste your money.

      Just my 2 cents.

You need to stay in the year coverage of your original engine. 2010-2011 is my guess without looking it up. Anything else is a headache waiting to happen. Ask a local garage if they can source one for you, even if you want to install it yourself.

That's unfortunate. I'll probably just have a shop level out this one and do all the seals and gaskets then. Some extra oomph for $350 sounded too good.
