      2004 aveo needs new motor

hello all. my name is chris an i am new to this site. I am having a bit of trouble with my aveo. well it seems the motor took a crap on me. either a piston seized to a cylinder wall or the crank seized up. I was looking at just going and replacing the motor myself and for a 2004 motor ive seen placews ask over 1200 for them but the 06 ones are only like 700. the question i have here today is will an 2006 1.6l motor fit into an 2004 car? if so what would some mods be if any to fit the 06 motor into the 04?

04-06 will work fine i think, and the only diffence from the 04-06 and 07 hatch is the TB, but you should be able to find one with decent miles for 700 and under easy, 06 will be the better than 04 anyways (they fixed some valve issues and such)

how many miles did you get on your current engine?

there are a few more differences than that, but the throttle boy is the big one, make sure you get a whole takeout, not just a long block. the only other issue people have been running into is a crank relearn.. look in doax's rebuild thread and a few other came across this..

the pcv system might be different as well as a few other minor systems, but it will work, you just might need to change some things to what your car originally had (throttle body, a sensor or two, maybe the intake manifold, etc)

im just lookinf for an easy replacement rather than spending 1200-2000 for a used 2004 engine. so minus a few swapping of parts an 06 motor will fit inside the bay of an 04 and still run correctly?

      yes it will.

the fact that you will potentially experience the crank relearn problem would happen even with the 04 engine from what i have heard. So save the money, and buy the 06-08 engine.

its a defunct you got screwed by gm thing.. the car will start and run fine or ok, but you will need to go to the dealer to pay to shut the light out.
