      Santa got me

I know not everybody subscribes to a big fat guy in a red suit. I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, what every it's dark outside winter solstice.

So what did you buy yourself or got for your Aveo? I got me a new welding kit so I can put my aveo back together.

I didn't snap a pic, but I got a dust buster to tidy up the floors in the Aveo and other dusty places. and a new (to me) HVLP gun for the paint work I have coming up on the nose of my LS. Not nearly as exciting as a welding rig though. When I get it I will certainly snap some pics of the awesome strut bar I won in the site contest.

Neither are for the Aveo, but I got...

A VDO vacuum gauge to match the OEM cluster on my daily driver I just picked up a month or so ago.

I also got a 10A motor controller shield for an arduino. This will be used to control an electric motor that'll be driving the water pump.

Water pump for what? Your daily driver? I am a firmware programmer by trade, so I am curious when people start using arduinos. I never used one. I tend to program a PIC chip from scratch to keep my skills sharper.

The above post was numbered 555. I have used a many a 555 timer for a project or two. That's for you guys are programmer and hardware geeks.

thehunterroo what is the purpose of an oil sperator in a GT?

I am still waiting on a picture of that FAT End kit by rabbit.

The arduino and motor controller shield will be controlling the electric water pump on my '93 Toyota Tercel, my first car. Its a continually evolving project car that I hope to never get rid of. The current plan with the car is to make a few tweaks to the car, and then start converting it to a PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle). That modification will add a ~100hp electric motor to the opposite end of the manual transmission. This will allow me to drive in normal gas mode (stock 82hp) for long trips, electric only mode (100hp) for short trips and daily commuting, or a combined mode (182hp) for fun. The electric water pump is one modification to help increase horsepower as well as maintain heat in winter with the engine off. Many hybrids use electric water pumps for this and other reasons.

The arduino is a great little platform for those who aren't big programming geeks mainly because of its fairly high level programming language. It allows you to get going quickly without tons of tedious code. I went to school for programming, but don't work as a programmer. Its nice to just sit down and crank out a quick program to test something, or do a little quick automation. I have more difficulty with the electronics side of things as everything I know I learned on my own, and there is SO much to know.

Well its not a kit, and the parts i bought don't even belong on an aveo, and I had it delivered to work so i delayed shipping on the pieces until after break was over... I will post some pictures of the test fit stuff after trimming and alignment issues have been figured out to see if it will even work.
