      Thermostat Sensor

My 09 aveo5 Thermostat sensor is not working (the one that sits on top). I am wondering if there is a way to change just the sensor without replacing the entire thermostat. Only way i've found that sensor is included with the Thermostat. Pulled codes P0597 and P0118 (both thermostat related but thermostat works fine and fan cycles normally).

You away the thermostat isn't working, then you say it is working fine later in the post... which is it? Also iirc there is 3 different sensors on the thermostat, how do you know which one it is? And just because the fan comes on doesn't mean the tstat is working

PS, having changed my tstat on my 2010 the sensors are like epoxied in, and won't come out without breaking

I said the thermostat sensor isn't working because not only did it pull the ODBII codes p0597 and p0118, i checked the ohms with a voltmeter going to the sensor sitting on top of the thermostat, and it gave off all 0's. Though the other sensors all gave off various readings so I narrowed it down to the one sensor.

I think the one right on top isn't a sensor. It gets voltage to open the thermostat... its all computer controlled... if I find my old tstat I can tell you for sure. I should have it around somewhere

Looks like a semi common problem. The whole unit is only 130 though, its not super expensive like a BMW's electrically controlled tstat.

Thanks. I found just the thermostat and top sensor/ECT on amazon for $52, or should I buy the whole unit with housing on Rockauto for $130?
