      Overheating???

Thanks to anyone who can diagnose this. I have a 2009 Aveo5 LT. The radiator coolant tank cap keeps releasing anti-freeze all over the motor. I replaced the pressure cap, thermostat, and cooling fan. The problem continues. The temp gauge reads normal. Not sure what to go after next. Any ideas welcome.

I just went for a 15 mile test drive.
The outside temp was 40 degrees.
The temp gauge rose to just below the halfway mark and stayed there for the entire trip.
I never see the cooling fan come on even if I turn on the A/C.
After I stopped the car and opened the hood, I can see the pressure cap had opened as I saw antifreeze all over the top of the catch tank. Both upper and lower radiator hoses were hot.
I could squeeze both hoses and see bubbles in the catch tank, thus making me think that the thermostat must be in the open position. All my relays and fuses test good.
Is it possible I have a bad coolant temp sensor?
Does anyone have a picture that shows how to locate the temp sensor?

Are you sure the there is not a leak depressurizing the system? temp stays about the same, but the fluid can boil over.. The overflow is part of the sealed system, so if the cap is bad, then it will overflow as it is depressurized.

I see no leaks. The only place the coolant is escaping is thru reservoir pressure cap.

I just replaced the cap for a third time. same issue. i would try the temp sensor next however i have to order it which takes a week. The sensor may be a waste of time however, I don't know what else to do.

the reservoir pressure cap could be the leak though. thats just based on your information. if the temperature is staying normal, there is not other coolant loss, and the rest of the systems appears operational (rad works, coolant moving through system, temp ok, not leaking) then its the pressure in the system that is probably gone.

I think the cap is good since I replaced it three times.

      Hello cmm47172,

I see you've replaced your cap several times in an attempt to address this; as I'm not a technician I can't really help troubleshoot. Are you planning on getting this checked into at all?

I usually work on my own cars and I'm usually successful in getting things fixed however, I'm baffled by this one given the number of parts that I thrown at thus far. My next step is to replace the coolant sensor which I have on order. I'm not sure if this will be the fix or not. I posted my question here hoping that I might hear from someone that has had the same issue and found a fix. I'm trying to avoid the dealer and do the work myself to save $$. The local dealer tries to rape me for $500 ever time I walk in the door.
