      06 aveo possible map failure

Started yesterday, had a shudder when you put it in gear, now even at idle it will start, idle no problem then shudder and die after a few minutes (less than a minute up to 2 minutes).

smells of fuel too, so like the computer is flooding the engine, plugs are less than 3 months old, wires less than a year.

if its the map i can do that, or ????? no codes (yet) idles fine until it fails so not sure its not trying to go from start mode to idle mode and the puter is puking.

sorry mods, posted in how to by accident, you can delete/close that one if you so desire.

went home at lunch, followed my old tired ears and found it.

there is a tear in the vacuum hose between the map sensor and the left side where it goes into the intake manifold, that little short hose has a tear in it.

guess i'm on the hook for a buck or two and some time this evening.

Hah, nice find. Those are the good ones. Replacing a rubber hose isn't too bad.

well that wasnt it....at least as far as symptoms, its hunting, sometimes it rev's fine, sometimes it hunts at 1500 or so rpm, up/down/up/down.

so fuel or fire, seems like fire is fine, i put a timing light on two of the 4 wires, flashed ok, ran for a good long time.

will get some TB cleaner tomorrow and try that next, it does seem awful gummed up.

last time this happened it was a plug wire that was bad...these are just about new, but that dont put out the fact it could be a coil yet.

it seems like you have a good idea on diagnosing it. Based on the lack of codes, i think you might be on the right track.

if you smell fuel, it could be an injection leak. check the intake manifold around the injectors to look for wet spots.

its TBI no injectors (least not that i can see), no fuel rail that's evident.

seems like a vaccy leak still, or fuel pump going south...so many possibilitys
