I installed my jvc stereo with hd radio and usb. using a wiring kit I got online. everything worked fine but the radio had very very poor reception. So I'm back to the sock radio.

I *think* you need an aftermarket radio capable of powering up the amplified antenna. I'm not a radio guy, but i think all model avers have an amplified antenna (mine did).

Agreed. Make sure that the harness and radios "powered antenna" wires are connected. It doesn't mean a power antenna from an '87 Buick, the antenna actually gets a little power to bring in reception.
