"Torque" is what you drive. HP is what most people (in North America) "buy" though.

Consider the Sonic: 2 gas engines to choose from, and they have the same HP rating. Seems strange, no? But the turbo engine has more torque - more fun & better fuel economy.

I am so sick of these US car companies. Even when they use our money to save their skin, they wont give us their best products. It's always reserved for the rest of the world. Pretty rediculous.

IMO how they drive is actually nicer for daily driving than a gas engined vehicle that you have to rev up higher to get power out of.
i have a friend who had a diesel jetta too and it sounds nice' yet thanks for explaining wat diesel cars can do i never understood that :X , andd well in my opinion they got it ups and downs diesel cost a lil too expensive nowadayys but u save up on gas which on normal cars like an aveo u need to hit the pedal past 2500 rpm in order to move fluently..yet normal gas is cheaper but if u are the type of person who hits the pedal to the medal it is good still lol.... anyways do u think the low horsepower specs for cars may be somewhat misscalculated?

Diesel is more money, but it has now "fuel" per gallon, so in the long run, diesel is usually better mpg wise (the aveo gets 30 or so on average, a diesel one might get 40 for example).

Though, horsepower is what 90% of what Americans want, and diesels do not have it (they need turbos to make power like that), they just do not sell here. Of course though, the Sonic got a big power increase from the Aveo and people still hate it.

Not to thread hijack, but does this mean we will see 1.6 tune availability from them?

Also I agree with the above, most people either don't care about torque or have no clue what it means and just look at the horsepower numbers. That's why my Lumina surprised people, it only had 160HP but it had 180torque at low rpm to get it moving.

Well that Diesel stuff would be great' since equivalently is a lightweight car, even a standard aveo is pretty gud in swift moving along the highway without the need of going against the speed limit at higher mph... anyways a tune would be great i would look forward in making my 1st gear a little longer to get to second
