Here in Arizona license plate covers are only illegal if they obstruct the veiw of the plate. There are two popular covers sold that are supposed to hide your plate from those cameras, one never works at all, and the other one has two magnified looking things, one on each side of the plate. You can see the plate from directly behind but not at a 45degree angle or around there. They are illegal, but do work sometimes. The sprays only work sometimes as well. Hell sometimes you get lucky and they can't get the plate even if you have nothing on it.

Here in Arizona within a few days of getting flashed they'll have it go through court already. They will send someone to your house to serve you, and if ANYONE answer the door (even the cleaning lady) you have been considered served and can't get out of it. However if you never answer the door or get served within 30 days they toss the charges. They come to your house at least once, but usually not more than 3x. I can't remember if they just mail something out to you after the first court date, then if you don't respond it goes to court again then they send someone to your house. If you get flashed I'd just let anyone that would possibly be in your house to not answer the door for anyone.

      *2

On a more conspiracy theory note:

There was a recent news study done that looked into the contracts from the manufacturers that provide the cameras to the cities. Apparently a lot of them include a quota (10 tickets/day, etc). So does that mean the city will intentionally shorten a yellow light so that they hit their quota and don't have to renegotiate their contract?

yeh i watched a news report about that. it was interesting. when a judge started to dismiss all the cases, the company that installed the cameras got all menstral and basically said hey, we have a contract, u need to get so many tickets a day cus we need to get paid! meanwhile, the city had already extended yellow light times and reported less infractions and accidents. so now the city agreed to up the amount of money it would pay the company per ticket issued. kind of lame, but...

like khan said, just stop at the light. then u wont have any worries.

I know for a fact that the Yellows have been shorten here is Los Angeles there is 3 camera's near my house and the yellows are only half as long as the lights that don't have camera's on top of that they issue tickes for turning on a red when it is clearly not marked as no turns on red. Yep big buisness making money hand over fist on the little guy.
