'07 Aveo 5 w/5speed. I had all-season tires on last winter, yep, they sucked it. Looking to put some winter shoes on this year. I am thinking about the General Altimax Arctics. Tire shop said they don't have the Generals in stock but would put the Michelin X-Ice Xi2s on for the same price. It looks like the General Altimax Arctic may be the better winter tire from what I have been reading. I have a max of $100/tire to spend. Any thoughts?

a lot of the audi guys swear by the generals. Just as many swear by other brands, not a whole lot that i know have run those michelins..
now the $100 per tire price, after a blow out i ended up with the firestone snows, i have 2 seasons on the and they are ok.. having had a lot of snow tires of different types they were decent for the money. I've never owned a "performance" snow tire.
in all honstly, just the sipping takes away the performance, i would go for function over form, unless your doing all highway driving, i would just go with a affordable snow tire. You could save some money, and buy a set of eldorados from vulcan tire, they are $252 shipped for a set of four to my door. with @ $50 mount and balance thats $75 per tire.
I have altimax snow tires on my g8, and they are absolutely amazing in every sense of the word
