i bought H&R's and cut those..

i would think you might be ok with cutting stocks, as they dont fell like a progressive spring, but stock springs might be more compromising than lowered springs being the lowering springs have a higher spring rate..

I cut one from the front and one from the rear. The rear sat lower after that, they seated fine and ride was no different than it is now with the H&R's... it was crap then and is crap now... I really need some struts

I wouldn't chop springs, it's hard to get the measurements just right so your ride will sit level. I would make sure it's on a level surface and heat your spings with a torch and you will achieve the same effect, this way you can lower your car to your liking without guess work. I did on my 1.8T Jetta and the only thing I noticed different in the ride was on a really bumpy road the ride tends to bounce a little bit. Idk, I would just buy springs though, thats the best thing to do.

IMO, heating springs is far worse the cutting them. Totally changes the characteristics of the steel.

      Re: cut springs

Cutting springs is a joke, not hard at all, if your smart your gonna cut the 2 front ones exactly alike and the 2 rear ones the same. I cut my Apex springs over 2 years ago, had no idea wtf i was doing, and the ride is very much to my liking.

      Re: cut springs

So I am thinking of starting 1.5 coils in the front. 1 in the rear.

do not heat the springs, it tempers the metal and will make them more prone to shatter.

Idk, I live and drive in -50 and colder and I run my cars pretty hard and never shattered a spring. Must've got lucky I guess.

      Re: cut springs

How about cutting with oxy-acetylene or plasma torch? that should still be ok because your not heating the whole spring right?
