Already have the head unit, well I'm going to pick it up today at the post office
Should I get one amp for speakers + one amp for subs? I don't mind spending for that if it's worth it.

Thanks for the links. Would you recommend a shallow sub box? The trunk space is really limited, I'd like to conserve as much of it as possible

HU is just a pioneer deh-2200ub
As cool as the false floor idea is, I don't want to remove the spare. I've had to use spares enough times in my life to want to keep mine right where it is. :P
a setup on the back of the rear seats sounds like it might work

and .. you mentioned a variety of different setups for the amps/wiring ... what are the pros/cons? will i end up with a better sound quality if I use one amp for the subs and one for the speakers?

will the head unit be too weak to power two of the speakers..? again i want the optimal sound quality across the whole range, so i don't want to cut corners unless i really have to

yes i will be installing myself

      arghh you're quite right.
guess i'll see how I like this head unit since I just got it, and i'll take it from there. the advice is much appreciated.

btw i know it maybe doesn't fit , but I saw this which looked like a reasonable deal: http://www.cdtaudio.com/hd62complete.htm

Re: Your advice on combination of amps, speakers, subs

For your current setup I would suggest you add an electronic crossover, it will give you your channel flexibility and step up the output voltage signal (2V to 4v-8v). Then I would suggest you get 6.5" comps and 6.5" midbass speakers (will give you additional sound without compromising on freq response, look for a a dB number of 90+) in the rear. As far a sub goes I would suggest a single 8" or 10" (look for something that is 100wrms or less) mount the enclosure on the left side of the trunk.
On to the amp a nice powerful 4ch will do great for you run ch. 1&2 to the comps and midbass in parallel and bridge 3&4 to the sub.

Or you can run a nice 5/6 ch amp and every speaker can have there own channel.

That would be my suggestion to optimize your current setup. Let me know if you have any questions.

Byron, just a little note about your first post, I didn't see anyone mentioning anything about it (maybe I just overlooked it), but if you're still running stock, you're most likely running 4" speakers in the front, so you would need to get a spacer to put a 6.5 speaker in the front door.

      Just something to consider...

Re: Your advice on combination of amps, speakers, subs

Everything is stock, and I just swapped the head unit for a pioneer deh-2200ub, a really basic unit (I wanted USB connection). It does sound quite a bit better than the stock head unit; but maybe that's just in my head. Or that I have control over a bit more settings than the stock unit. Either way, at least it feels like an upgrade, even if I will end up changing it again when I upgrade the rest of the system. :P

If 6.5 it still has to be a shallow mount type, right?
