Right now I have a rockford P200 powering a Kicker CVR, the HU is Pioneer P4000UB. I was planning to go with one set for the front but I may add an other set later on if the SQ isn't what I want. I can get a P300 from a friend for cheap and it puts out 75rms X 2.

My only problem is that the electrical system might not be up to running 2 amps, the one amp dims the lights on heavy bass hits right now.

the second amp doesnt draw a lot, you just run it off from a distribution block or cap or whatever you get

i think it all comes down to the specs of the amps.. one 1000watt amp would be a great strain on the stock charging system over time. But you could run 4 200 watts amps and not have the draw of the one.

thats coming from my electrical knowledge not stereo install knowledge.

Install a huge power capacitor on the power input to each amp, and when it thumps, the current demand will be mostly supplied by the caps. There's no substitute for big wires, battery and bigger alternator when it comes to sound systems.

where do you wire a capcatior to in a sound system, in between the battery and the amp?

      Re: putting something together

OK...here we go again...first off, if you are running 2 amps you will need to run at least 4 gauge wire to your distro block. that is big. Now , no amp is 100% efficient, but a simple calculation is P=ExI. You know the P and the E so calculate I...1000 watts at 14.4 volts equals about 70 amps...I think the alternator is around 85 amps.

A cap is not the answer either. I know some will disagree, but please come with facts on this one. I will argue a cap will rob the system of power during recharge period. A cap in DC electronics acts as a filter to give clean power, it does not generate any power, so it will not solve the problem of not enough juice.

Maybe the OP can give some more details of what he is trying to achieve and a budget. Then better advice can be given.

we need a bigger alternator and battery!

i never seen any aftermarket alternators though
