Group Buy High Output 200 Amp Alternator

      Anyone interested?

The alternator should give you between 180-200 amps, probably about 100+ at idle. The alternator will come with a 6 month warranty against defective parts.

Custom built alt that will bolt on with no mods.

      Anyone interested?

What kind of potential cost are we looking at, and what are the new numbers in comparison to our stock alt.

Also, will this higher output require a better grounding system than the usual grounding wire set?

Are there any benefits to someone who will not be using a ton of audio/visual equipment as far as any performance gains?

Group Buy Cost : ( I should have later on today)
Stock Alternator is 85 amps ,
HO Alternator will idle at 100+ amps and max around 180-200 amps,

Lower gauge wire can be purchased from the manufacturer and will be needed to properly install the HO alternator.

If you run alot of electric accessories in your car then the HO alternator would be of use to you. Or if you plan on creating a hybrid vehicle. Chevy Volt meet the Chevy Aveo...hummm

I could really use a HO alternator, how much are they? I dont want to have to go and find a place to rebuild mine when i could just order one with a much higher output.

$500 but the price can go down if there is enough support.

Re: Group Buy High Output 200 Amp Alternator

Why not just install an additional battery??? $500 seems awfully high to generate more power for a system. Even if the support is there, what is the bottom dollar we are looking at?

Re: Group Buy High Output 200 Amp Alternator

Ideally, you should opt for a high-output alternator and additional batteries. A good rule of thumb is to use the largest alternator you can fit on the engine and an additional battery for every 500 watts of amplification. The second rating on the battery the AH (amp/hour) rating is the most important in terms of your system. This rating simply states how much current the battery is capable of delivering for a period of time.

Installing an additional battery you have to look at the AH. A battery that will provide you with 100A (idle of HO alt)-42.5A(cars consumption)=57.5A available at idle for your stereo. An after market sealed battery that can give you 57.5A in an hour costs $369.99 (Kinetik HC1400 Power Cell 60AH). Granted this is only with the H/O alternator idle.

      Example:

Say you have a 1,000-watt audio system and you want to know if your car's electrical system can drive it. At full output, the system will produce 1,000 watts of power to your speakers at about 67 percent efficiency. This means that the input power to the amplifiers is 1,000 / 0.67 or 1,492 watts. The standard equation for power is: P = V x I where P is input power in watts, V is input voltage, and I is input current in amps. If we assume that the battery's voltage is the typical 13 VDC, then the input current, or alternator power, required by your system can be calculated from the above equation. Rearranging the equation, we get: I = P / V By plugging in the numbers and solving the equation, we get I = 1,492 / 13 – or 115 amps.

The stock alternator produces about 85 amps maximum. Of this, about half is used to run the car itself. So this leaves you with about 43 amps for your system, 72 amps less than the 115 you need. Where will the other 72 amps come from? The stock battery has 55Ah and will try to supply it, but it will be able to do so only for short periods before the voltage drops to an insufficient level. Your system will not be able to play at its full potential for any significant length of time.

As it is possible to buy enough batteries to give you the instantaneous amperage that the H/O can produce, it will cost you more in batteries then it would to get the H/O alternator. To have 160Amps in batteries you will need one hour and 2 Kinetik HC1800 Power Cell 81AH at a cost of $419.99ea for a total of $839.98.

      $839.98 vs. $500.00
The best price with a group buy is $400+shipping w/10+people.

      Need I explain more?
