      CD Player Error

Hi Everyone! This is my first post. I recently bought a 2009 Chevy Aveo5.
When I try to play a CD, the display says "File Check Error 3" and then ejects the disk.

I tried several new store bought music cds that I know are good.
I talked to a local Chevy dealer service manager who thinks that the whole radio needs to be replaced with a refub unit that costs 700.00!

Anybody have a fix for this?

spend $50 for a cd player off ebay and install it yourself?

I think there are software updates for some oem radios too, are there not? maybe a reprogram can be done?

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any info on the reprogramming procedure or getting updates?
Also, I thought about buying a replacement although I have no idea how to get the old one out without trashing my dash. Any ideas on how to remove the old on would be appreciated.

IDK about reprogamming it, but I can help with removing the old stereo. There's the trim piece above the stereo (AC vents are there if equipped) that I found out should be removed if you want to remove the U piece that is around the stereo screws. I thought that it was just the U piece, but the upper parts of it didn't want to budge until I had removed the upper trim piece. I might have managed without removing the AC piece, but I really didn't want to break pieces. And then there's just 4 screws that hold the stereo in.

Sorry to hear about the issues with the radio. No special pricing or assistance can be guaranteed, but we can look into the situation for you. If you send a PM, include your VIN#, name + contact information, dealership, situation, and current mileage. I hope this is resolved quickly for you. Regards.

i have 76,500 miles. The dealer said it was not covered by warranty. They said i would have to pay $700 and give them my old radio. They would replace it with a refurb. What a load of crap that is. Like I'm going to pay $700 for a refurb that is likely to develop the same problem and then I'm back to square one and lost $700 bucks.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a service manual that details radio replacement?

The following does have access to service manuals. The site is an independent vendor and may charge a fee. Let us know if you any further issues with your Aveo. Regards.

Does anyone have a list of what the different possible errors mean exactly?
I'm wondering if I blow it out with a little compressed air and use a CD cleaner kit might fix the problem.
