      painting lights need opinions

For my spring projects I'm painting heads and tails.

Heads will have a victory red housing with nightshade reflector.

Tails is where I need ideas.
My first idea is to pull apart and nightshade the inside of the lense. I think it'll give it a much cleaner look.

If I do this should I put something like a bowtie stencil? Like this one on the outside.

Or should I nightshade the outside of the light and do a stencil like I did on my cobalt

i don't care for the look of night shade. most people who use it butcher it.

I have used tinted clear, and made the taillight look like smoked glass, i suppose you could clear over nightshades, but it would still need a lot of work smoothing out, and the spray can stuff fades from what i have seen.

I am also not a fan of adding more "emblems" to the car on the taillights. If you are going to do it, do it like factory we call it oem+ for your tails i would tint the inner circle dark, matching the outer light, and then tint the outer half inch or so just as dark, unmask wet and do a lighter tint over the whole thing to get rid of the nasty edge those bowties have, it would look like this somewhat:

Either process takes a steady hand... Clear coat and black do look the cleanest, but for an average person, it's cheaper and a better option to call up your local body and paint shop and have it done. Unless you already have the compressor, a spray gun, and.. Well, a steady hand.

If you butcher it with night shade (uneven coats) it might look somewhat good while the lights are off, but the streaks will definitely show up when the lights are illuminated.

I don't like the simple smoke over the top look. And my cobalt tails actually lit up perfectly. Not paint defects. I think I may just do it inside the circle on the inside of the lense. And info have all the right painting stuff. And ya was on cobaltss.net but more on rockymountainecotec.net

Then do the inside. Don't do the bow tie unless you debadge the rest of the rear lid and that's the only Emblems you have

Won't take the bowtie off the back cuz there are holes behind it. But ok I'll pull apart and see if itll be easy to do just the circle or the whole thing. Thanks
