Hey,does anybody know how to remove the shifter cover to get at the illumination bulbs inside.None of them work on my 2004 with AOD so it makes finding the shift positions at night a real PITA

Hey,does anybody know how to remove the shifter cover to get at the illumination bulbs inside.

The shifter cover sits under the console lip. The console lifts from the back after your remove the two side screws and the one under the plug in the rear cup holder. The A/T shift needs to be positioned to neutral or drive and the parking brake has to be pulled up as far as it will go (and then some). I was able to pull the lever just enough with two hands to clear it, so you may have to adjust (loosen) the parking brakes if too tight. The console can be set to the side once the aux/lighter outlet is unplugged from the bottom.

Don't remember the layout, but believe you should be able to figure out how to get to the light once the console is off.

Oh... the airbag control unit sits under the console between the shift and brake lever, so either disconnect the battery or be especially cautious when working around it and it's associated wires.
