      Re: ECU Tuning

I think I might have found someone who's done it before to his 04 Aveo (now crashed, I took the A/C out of it). He offered me to buy his ECU too since it's already tuned, but I figured there will be issues with it being for an 04 (cable throttle) and mine is an 06 (drive by wire). While the ECU part number/internals may be the same, I suspect it is programmed different for that reason. So before I can stick it into my car, it would have to be flashed with 06 firmware and then programmed again.. The guy is going to talk to the shop that did it for him last time, and the guy is a good friend of his. He said that he may be able to do it for around $150 (his guess, he did it for him for $50, but that's 'cause he did a bunch of work for him as a mechanic). Sounds almost too good to be true, but we'll see what this leads. I'll keep you guys posted.

      Re: ECU Tuning

In a situation like that I would run a dyno pull before and after to see if there is any real gain. As well as be cautioned about reliability. Only because you can add an "eBay resistor" internally to the ecu instead of just on the maf or map like the cheapies.

But if it's a true flash or reprogram that is a hell of a good deal.

guys im not all that familiar with the "computer/programing" part for cars yet but im just wondering is it the ECU thats responsible for the 160km/h cap... For the people who dont know what im refering to: When you reach 160 km/h one of the car's chipset disables the throttle and drops your speed back to 100km/h (60m/h)

Yes, the ECU is responsible for the top speed limiter (which I believe is actually is set at 105 mph) and for the rev limiter that is set at 5800 RPM... And both of those could be removed while the computer is reprogrammed.

the aveo has no limiter though, i would buy an extra ecu and send it up there if this is true of that guy

I'm pretty sure it has a limiter. And they're going to compare the flash files of 04 and 06 to see if it's just a matter of a couple of different settings because of DBW or if it needs to be completely redone with dyno and everything.

So does a jiffy lube do this reprogramming?
What major places (like pepboys) do the dyno and are able to do the reprogramming? if so, would it be $150 like Serega12's guy said?

      Re: ECU Tuning

haha no places like that know what a dyno is, you have to go to a shop that does custom work and do not hate aveos or anything thats not an import

really, very few places can do it anyways, i still dont think it can be done
