      Diesel engine swap

I was thinking about swapping my engine for a 1.7 Vauxhall diesel engine. I do realize that the diesel from the Daewoo Lacetti would cause less trouble fitting, but it doesn't get much better fuel economy than what I have now.
They are cheap, but the currency exchange rate is terrible and the shipping is a pain. Usually people don't opt for diesels unless they travel a lot. I've had my Aveo a year and I've put on 22,000 miles. I'd say it would cost $4000 for the engine, accessories, mounts, and installation. It would pay for itself in 3 years considering how much I drive and the difference in fuel economy. Any thoughts ?

Yes Yes. It does look like a possible fit. The early TDIs look very similar to Opel/Vauxhall engines of the same era (late 80s, early 90s). Only thing I'm worried about is the transmission. If Rabbit had his way, his Aveo would be de badged for VW badges and a VR6 would be dropped in .

The 1.7 is an Isuzu diesel I'm looking at. It's from a 1997 Vauxhall Astra, same platform the Aveo is on (GM T Platform). The only issue is the different electronics. Opel/Vauxhall use different wiring and electronics than Daewoo does.

if the engines are the same, the "should" have same electronics to run them. the newer than 1997 stuff (daewoo chevy) all seem to cross reference to vauxhall.

the o2m is the transmission, it bolts up to the tdi if you get a 1.8t o2m, and you will only need axles, if you convert it to TDI-m.

A TDI or VR Aveo would be sweet! An .:R would be even cooler!

HMM, never thought about the fitment of a 1.8T with trans. I may just have one of these as parts soon...
