Change Engine Light

I changed the engine oil with Castrol Edge 5w-40 before the change engine oil light come on. Castrol Edge should stay in the engine for 15000 km or a year. After 1500 miles the change engine life come on in my IPC.
Is this mean that the oil is bad and I should change it or what?
I did not reset the indicator till now to see what will happen.
The owner manual mentioned that when the light come on you should change the oil within 600 miles (1000 km).

it's really a reminder light. If you have a smart phone get a odbII to bluetooth device and use TORQUE to clear the code.
