I'd like to get rid of mine, but don't want a battle with O2 sensors.

true. I will just buy everything when I get around to the exhaust work. Right now i'm waiting on a check to get the hail damage fixed and hoping I will have some left over from that to get something else for the car.

Removing the cat on a car like ours wont do anything but make it sound more "raspy" in the exhaust, not going to gain any power, maybe 1-2 hp, exhaust will stink.

I took them off my 525 HP Corvette and now want to put them back on, it only gave me 6 RWHP but then again I do have 4 more cyl.

I'm thinking of years down the road when the cat eventually get's clogged. I have had it happen to me in the past. I actually shelled that one and it made a large difference.

newer cats are high flow and performance oriented especially on performance cars. more economical cars might gain more % without a cat in there. but will still only be 1-3 % gain which is only 1-3 hp on the aveo. but we all know we need all the hp we can get..

if your cat got clogged, you had some other issue causing that. although clogged cats are terribly common on gms, it shouldnt be a "concern" although it is a prehistoric design by todays standards (really what has changed in the design since the 80s?) aybe all the corn we are burning causes issues with cats at a higher level?

Leave it on or fix it, regardless if it's illegal or not.

Even the Open Heavy class cars in rally are required to have a Cat, and can still put down 350+ hp.
