      AC noise/issue

The latest issue with our aveo is that sometimes at idle, with the AC on it makes a "rumbling" noise, that you can almost feel through the gas pedal. I know almost nothing about the AC system, and very little about the compressor. I'm wondering if the clutch is acting up, or if the bearing is going bad. We had a coolant leak issue for ~10k miles so maybe coolant ruined the bearing...?

Any input or where to start? Thanks. Oh it's a 2005 auto trans.

I think its the clutch, i can feel my clutch kick on, and it even chirps once in a while.

it could be the ac cycling on and off, or the compressor itself. It absolutely does not do it without the ac on?

If it occurs at idle, pop the hood and see if the ac is cycling on and off, or is it more consistent than that?

It's very consistent when it does it, but doesn't always do it. I just noticed it yesterday. I started the car, everything was normal. After a few seconds I turned the AC on and it started the "rumbing" noise and I could sort of feel it through the pedal. If you rev the engine it goes away, then once it returns to idle it came back. I turned the AC off and it stopped. Then turned it back on and it started again. It was there the whole time at idle while backing out of the driveway, etc. Once on the road I didn't notice it, even at stop lights or the parking lot at home depot.

I'm not extremely well versed on AC systems, but I don't think it was cycling. From what I know, cycling is when it makes that clicking sound(I assume this is the clutch). It wasn't that sound. It was almost like a bearing noise.

I asked the wife how long it's been doing it and she said "since we bought the car". That is not true lol. I've never noticed it, and although I don't drive the car everyday I do drive it probably once a week. We've owned the car for years.

I am curious about how your feeling it through the pedal, if you mean you can "feel" it in the pedal as in a gas to foot adjustment, i understand that completely. If you mean the pedal is vibrating or something through the cable, then I think it might not be the AC but the high idle for the ac..

yeah you can sort of "feel" the pedal shaking/rumbling. I think it has more to do with the whole vehicle transmitting the vibration due to whatever the cause is, and I just happen to be feeling it in the pedal. The pedal probably vibrates easy since it's light and thin.

I'm familiar with high idle with AC on, and it is not the same as that. It is definitely something out of the ordinary.
