      Timing belt

Hi guys I'm from the uk, ive got a 2008 Aveo Lt 1.4L with 42k miles. Do I need to change the timing belt yet? Or is it okay until 60k miles. It's an expensive job. Thanks in advance

With its age, just do it now before it breaks and becomes more expensive.....assuming it’s an interference engine. If not, roll the dice and hope no tow truck is needed.

I just replaced the timing belt on my 2004 Aveo last year that had only 45,000 miles. You can always pull the inspection cover and inspect the condition of the belt and see if its dry, cracked, rotted, etc. My belt was dry and cracked, and thats why I chose to replace it.

The recommended change interval is every 60k, but still depends on the physical condition.

Drove my 2006 till 120k km's before I changed timing belt. Was constantly checking it for cracks and dryness till recently when I decided to change it, and believe me, was in a good shape

I am having a timing belt issue also. It slipped off in first gear and I'm unsure of how to proceed.

Do I put the belt back on?
Get a mechanic to look at it?
Or search for a new engine?

Is your engine an interference engine?
      that’s my first question.

Well, that’s an interference engine. Most likely it’ll have some valve damage. But who knows…there was one lucky guy on here a year ago that managed to avoid catastrophe.
unless you are a proficient mechanic, tow it to a garage.
